Things are what they are.
Mmmm. Look at the color of that paper. Arches 140 lb. coldpress. It's only because it's Arches. For whatever reason, the color takes evenly. Like coffee, with lots and lots of cream. Smooth, even, creamy surface of color.
That photo was taken a week ago, and since then, I have already painted the second layer. I will now trim it down, treat the edges, stick it in the vat once more. Then will come a final pressing, and the last layer of details and washes. Whew. It sounds like a lot but really isn't. Or maybe it is. I dunno. Doesn't matter. It is what it is.
I'd like to open a store on Etsy. It's been prancing around in my head for the last two weeks or so. I've heard of people doing pretty well on there, though I'm not sure what I would sell, or how well it would sell. I figure that anything is worth a try, for fun, as a learning experience or otherwise. Hmmmm.
And hmmmmm.
And it snowed Saturday. I had high hopes of heading into new york city for the day, but since bad weather and my (yellow weenie) car don't do well together, I had a change of heart.
Poooooooooooo.
But the view was nice, especially when the sun came out.

i was going to head to nyc saturday too! now my 10-trip ticket for the commuter rail is expired and i only used up 4 of the trips. what a waste.
ReplyDeleteat least the sun came out.
ooooh! An etsy store?!? I would buy your art! What would you sell? Prints? Originals? I love your art. It's very original and, I would love to have some hanging on my walls.
ReplyDeletem: I was hoping to go to the James Jean opening at Jonathan Levine Gallery, and maybe a museum. Bummer the snow. Ooooooh new york in the spring! I'm looking forward to that though. Sorry bout your tickets. Stuff like that always seems to happen to me too (subway passes especially).
ReplyDeletejb: You are being overly dramatic. LOL! Though that's very nice of you to say. :0)
I'm with j.b. here, I would pick up something from your etsy shop in a heartbeat, your work is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteHope you are enjoying the snow, Its 80 degrees and cloudless here, you should come visit!
i always head to jonathan levine's gallery too. did you see the ray caesar show by any chance?
ReplyDeleteas for an etsy shop, i'm with these two - you should totally do it!
I'm so glad you said you would sell on Etsy! As soon as I saw this image I thought "I want it! I wonder if she is on Etsy!!"
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful :)
Wow. Thanks for the great responses everyone. I think now I need to actually take this Etsy idea to the next level, and come up with a list of fun items, artworks and prints.
ReplyDeletem: That's one show that I'm pretty bummed I missed. I find Ray Caesar's art fascinating, because it's digital and very accepted, and because his work touches so much on his past background with working with neglected and abused children. I'm still planning to go see the James Jean exhibit. Maybe in a week or two after this nasty cold snap we're getting dissipates.
julita, the james jean show looks incredible! i just stumbled across images on the omg posters blog. they say, "James Jean’s debut show at Jonathan Levine Gallery is creating more hype, excitement, and chatter around the art world than almost any other exhibit in recent memory." wow!
ReplyDeletei missed the opening of ray's show which was a real bummer because i'd made hotel reservations for a place in chelsea about a year in advance i was so pumped. but my mom was in the hospital. i did manage to get there while it was still hanging.
